The books of the Christian Bible were composed by perhaps as many as forty different authors over a period of over a thousand years. How did the documents which we collectively refer to as the Judeo-Christian Scriptures arise? Who wrote them? When? What were the authors theological, political, military and economic motivations? And how did these documents come to be collected, first into the Hebrew scriptures, and then combined with the documents of the Christian New Testament into one monolithic book which we call the Bible? In this presentation, Dr. Matthew Rainbow will summarize the history of the Hebrew people and the complex evolution of Judaism. Dr. Rainbow will explain the non-supernatural theories for the origin of our biblical documents on the origins of inter-testamental and first-century apocalyptic literature. Dr. Rainbow will emphasize the evidence both for and against these theories, especially internal evidence from within the Bible itself. As a former Christian who continues to be intrigued by the unlikely but non-ignorable possibility that Jesus of Nazareth actually rose from the dead, Dr. Rainbow will certainly present the evidence for the resurrection of Christ.
