From ragtime to rock and roll, the Great American Songbook is filled with tunes whose melodies and lyrics reflect our history, mores, and growth as a people. This retrospective on American music includes a look at jazz, show tunes, the Gershwins, big bands, and movie music. Video footage of artists from Fats Waller and Bessie Smith to Hoagy Carmichael and Judy Garland from Michael Feinsteins PBS show The Great American Songbook: Celebrating 100 Years of Music in America will enhance the presentation.
