DECONSTRUCTING DERRIDA

Whether the subject is philosophy, culture, architecture, history, political science, art, religion, or literature, one cannot get away from the postmodern French philosopher, Jacques Derrida. His impact on the arts and humanities is wide ranging. Join an evening of reflection on Derrida, the father of “deconstruction,” through film, slides, discussion and music. Marthe Aponte, from the French Dept. at AVC, was a student of Derrida’s and will be one of the evening’s presenters. Santi Tafarella, from the English Dept. will reflect on Derrida’s deconstructive maneuvers in relation to what poets and other creative writers and artists do. Whether you are a student who wants to get in “the postmodern know” or a professor who grappled with Derrida’s books in graduate school, you will enjoy this evening of deconstructing the great deconstructionist himself. Presenters: Marthe Aponte, Dr. Rachel Jennings and Santi Tafarella
