This course is for people who want to...

  • Find or develop their unique vision.
  • Explore what works on stage (actors, directors, designers).
  • Develop their dialogue skills (writers of screenplays or stories).
  • Discover how language on stage interacts with their own art form.
  • Hone their playwriting skills to enter the yearly Theatre Arts Department Original One Act Play Festival.
  • Tell the story they must tell.

course description from catalog:

Course focuses on exercises in writing scenes and a short play to develop the writer's individual voice. This is accomplished by creating believable dialogue, three dimensional characters, and motivated action. Class discussions emphasize the value of giving and receiving constructive criticism as a basis for revising plays. The course culminates in a presentation of selected scenes from student work.
